Conference Call Services Can Save You Money

Conference call services are the latest craze in the world of business. It is basically a form of communication that allows interaction between people who are separated by great distances.

Video conference calls require some standard equipment like a computer, web camera, microphone and speakers. Other more complicated systems have dedicated conference call hardware that allows the user additional flexibility and much needed control when engaged in a video conference call.

The technology used for conference call services is hardly recent, and even television sets can be considered a form of video conferencing. This is based on the fact that two closed-circuit televisions that were connected together using a cable would allow the user of each to hold a form of conference call with the other.

The video conferencing industry received the opportunity to revolutionize itself with the advent of new technologies such as ISDN. The marked improvements that have been made in the quality of video conferencing in the past ten years have been responsible, in part, for the ever increasing number of firms that are installing video conferencing equipment as part of their office upgrading.

Internet connections with frame rates of three frames per second is an additional improvement and is all that is required by most users. Video conferencing has eliminated the need for business travel resulting in huge savings by the corporations.

Many companies were spending thousands of dollars on international travel expenses when they needed to send their employees overseas. Now with video conferencing becoming more and more popular, it has offered an alternative to business travel. The need for employees to travel in order to fulfill the obligations of the Head Office is no longer an issue. Conference call services are more effective and a less expensive way than requiring employees to travel overseas.

It is indisputable that an employee travel is highly expensive for any business. Temporary loss of regular work by an employee, transportation and accommodation costs are just a few of the expenses associated with an employee travelling. Now, employee travel has practically been eliminated by conference call services and the time and money saved by a company is insurmountable. Businesses have found that a physical audience is no longer required in order to make a presentation.

In order to establish a facility in your office for the purpose of making conference calls, you must approach either your local telecommunications provider, or one of the many companies specializing in the provision of video conferencing systems to larger firms.

The Secrets Of Saving Money With Video Conferencing

Video conferencing can allow hundreds of virtual participants in a conference. People can see each other, share information, study, use whiteboards and even share computer desktops. The possibilities of training and learning are huge. Conventional training can be very expensive to set up, and doing it via video conferencing makes a lot of sense.

Here are some of the main advantages of video conferencing over face to face conferencing:

* Cost. The overheads when running video conferencing are miniscule compared to the actual cost of physically delivering people from all sorts of locations to a specific destination. Taking into account the cost of travel itself, accommodation for those from out of town, meals etc should be enough to convince you. When you actually include the cost of lost man hours travelling then there is no contest in my mind.

* Easy access to information is also a great benefit to video conferences. Most people will have all of their business contacts and information available on their computers. So, if they work from home for the day, everything that they need will be to hand.

* In the event that you need to call on any third parties for one off conference visits, you will find it far easier and cheaper to do so with a video conference, rather than dragging them to an office of hotel.

* When you are running video conferences, it is easy to record important sections of the meetings. These types of videos could prove invaluable for training of staff and new people.

* Being able to see everyone on video is almost as good as seeing them face to face. It is far less impersonal than a simple telephone call for example. Having this facility available can speed up some of your business processes as well, and, as they say, time is money!

If you compare the experience of a telephone conference to a video conference, then video conferencing wins hands down again. Seeing your fellow delegates on video is a major advantage to the experience gained of shared call meetings.

With the improvements in technology come reductions in costs as well as better technical facilities. The longer time goes on, the better value for money that video conferencing becomes.

Guru’s Guide to Getting Started with Webcam Conferencing

Have you tried webcam conferencing yet? No? Sometimes email and phone calls aren’t enough. You need to see the speaker. Time to get started with webcam conferencing

Webcam technology has really improved the last few years. You can get a very acceptable webcam for family use priced less than $40. If you’re replacing business meetings you might want to pay more attention to brands and reviews (I like Logitech models), but can easily buy a decent webcam for $40-$60.

Your choice should definitely be a USB webcam. Installation is easy, and you’ll be ready to go in a snap. My website lists a number of webcam brands/prices for you to review.

Personal Use:

Now that you have your webcam, how do you start with webcam conferencing? Easy. Try it out with your instant messaging software. AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and Windows Live Messenger all work with webcams. Ask one of your friends to chat with you so you can sit down and practice.

Professional Useage:

Businesses don’t use video messaging much yet. They tend stick to web conference software. Fortunately, the major vendors all support video streaming and will integrat with your webcam.

You’ll definitely want to practice the integration with your web conference software. Figure out how to turn the video streaming on and off, how to adjust the resolution and speed, just for starters. By the way, if you don’t already have a web conference vendor there’s a great 14-day free trial available to let you practice. See this article’s resource box for a link.

Tips:

Slow down! (Your speech, that is.) Webcam conferencing usually doesn’t quite keep up with natural human speech. You don’t need to talk like you’re in quicksand, just remember to talk a half-beat slower than normal. This is a common recommendation for presenters anyway — it’s good to get in the habit.

In case you didn’t notice in the earlier paragraphs, I recommend you practice a little. Give yourself 15 minutes to learn the features of your particular webcam. Some will even enhance the image (want less wrinkles?) if you like. Regardless, you’ll want to understand what you’ve bought.

That’s it! You’re ready to join the webcam conferencing world.
